Frequently Asked Questions

What is CrossFit?Crossfit in Sacramento

CrossFit is constantly varied functional movement performed at high intensity across broad time and modal domains. Constantly varied means we apply different stimulus in weight, time domain, environment, and equipment to create the most efficient and effective training model. We use a wide variety of of methods and techniques in perfect synchronization to produce the best possible general physical preparedness. Functional movement is generating power and speed from the core to the extremity.

We row, run, bike, and swim hard and fast in as many combinations as creativity will allow. We squat heavy, heavily, and often. We throw, jump, lift, press, and climb. We use safe movements that mirror and enhance the natural human movement patterns that are required for life regardless of if you are an athlete, a mother, a Soldier, or trying to retain your independence in your golden years.

How is Land Park CrossFit different from other CrossFit Gyms?

At Land Park CrossFit all members will receive a thorough athletic assessment before starting a program. By working with coaches who are experts in the field and constantly seek to increase their knowledge you, as the athlete, will receive the best training methods specific to your needs.

In short, we don’t believe in the “one size fits all” prescription. Rather, we take the time to assess, diagnose, and prescribe legitimate training in order to prevent over training, over reaching, and to ensure the best workout is achieved.

Is CrossFit too extreme for me?

This is the most common question I hear from people who are interested in CrossFit.  Whether they are first getting started or feel like they are not in good enough shape to start, there is a common misconception that CrossFit is only for those who are already fit. CrossFit may be an intense program, but it is an intensity that is relative to your athletic level. Whether your need is to power lift 500 pounds or safely lift a bag of dog food, we will find the right prescription to achieve your greatest gains.

As a CrossFit coach, I have trained people from all walks of life. The program is infinitely scalable and we will adjust to your needs and what you are capable of. This is the cornerstone of what we do. We train you to be a better you by performing challenging (NOT IMPOSSIBLE), functional movements in a fun and exciting group setting under the supervision of a certified and expert coach.

What is a “box” and how is it different from a regular gym?

The term “box” refers to the open, four wall feeling our gym has. Whereas a gym down the road is cluttered with machines and expensive “cardio” equipment, ours looks relatively empty. This is because we use that open space for real training. Instead of hiding our clients behind impressive pieces of equipment we fill our space with hard work and showcase the impressive results that we see in our athletes.

You cannot drop weights in that gym. You can in a box. In a traditional gym people are doing their own routines and inwardly judging each other. In a box you have educated staff that teaches you proper mechanics and a strong community that does the same workout of the day, or WOD, and cheers for each other. A box is a community, a family.

What are the membership terms?

All new members must make a 3 month commitment. I personally meet with everyone interested in training so that we can give our customers a proper assessment and program design to improve their fitness.

If it is your intention to sign and not show, then we don’t want to waste your time or ours. We put a lot of care and time into our athletes and we want to see you succeed as much as you do. It’s why we get involved as trainers in the first place.

Who does CrossFit?

Everyone.

Why do CrossFit gyms charge more than big national chains?

CrossFit is the most time/cost effective personalized plan, period. You can not achieve these results on your own. As a coach, when I train, I also need a coach.

Being unhealthy is the most expensive way to live. Eating unhealthy is the fastest way to incur expensive medical bills for medicine and surgeries.

You could join a large gym with 100 treadmills and 50 machines (that may or may not be serviceable) for under $50 a month. But you would pay more than a membership here in two or three sessions with a personal trainer. At Land Park CrossFit you will experience top-level coaching and the most supportive community to keep you on top of your goals.

CrossFit works because it is stimulating and fun every time. If something is fun you are going to stick with it. If you stick with something it’s going to produce results. These results are unparalleled by anything else offered in the 60 Billion dollar industry that is health and fitness services. You save money, you live longer – better.

What are your considerations for existing injuries?

Please talk to your doctor before starting our program, or any fitness or nutrition program. We can accommodate most any fitness level, and can usually work around limitations, but your fitness to do our program is a decision between you and your doctor.

Feel free to call me with any other questions you may have.
